WARM YOUR BODY BY HEALTHIER DRINK WITHOUT ALCOHOL

Are you drink alcohol to alleviate your bad or negative feeling or just to warm your body. Whatever the reason, the fact remains that alcohol can cause big problems for our mental health. Actually, drinking alcohol heavily and in long period time can increase your anxiety. Therefore, it better to choose other healthier drink instead of alcohol to get good feeling. The best choice is herbal drink.  

Consume a herbal drink is one of the various ways to keep perfectly healthy and feeling happy . This kind of way is relatively safe without unwanted side effect, easy, and cheap. Drink a herbal drink not only give you a pleasure but also make you healthier. Acctually it is easy to make herbal drink by yourself. There are so many simple recipe that we can prepare within short time. Before we make a herbal drink, there are some points we have to consider. First, we only use the high quality ingredients, that is old rhizome. You should not use a sprouting rhizome. When dormancy period passed, the rhizome sprout and use its energy to grow so that the active coumpound contained within will decrease. That is why the sprouted rhizome is not good enough for a herbal drink. If you like to store some ingredient for stock do not keep them too long passing over their dormancy period. It is always better to use the fresh ingredient, but if only the dried herbs are available make sure that they are perfectly clean and free from mold. As well as ingredient, the utensil to cook the herbal drink is important. The optimal benefit we can take from herbal drink that is cooked by a pot made from clay. Herbs can interact with cast iron or aluminium and cause a chemical reaction that could alter the therapeutic quality of the herb. Therefore do not prepare or cook your herbal drink by using pan or other container which are made from these metal. Other than clay pot, the heat-resistant glass pan is also good selection for brewing the herbal drink, but these utensils are more expensive than the clayware ones. 

 

The following are some recipes of delicious healthy herbal drink. They can be made easily by yourself.

Bajigur is native to the sundanesse people of west java, Indonesia. This drink are typically served hot so it is suitable to consume in the cold weather to increase the sensation of being warm. Your body will be warm not only by the drink temperature but also the ingredient that is contained Zingiber officinale.  Ginger root or zingiber officinale has many benefit one of them is a remedy for poor circulation because ginger stimulate adrenaline released so that help dilate blood vessels. This condition improves blood circulation so that the blood pressure  become lower. The ginger root is also used as a remedy indigestion problems and rheumatism. While  ginger root give warm sensation, other ingredient that is Pandanus amaryllifolius (pandan leaves), enhance the flavor of the drink. Actually the main ingredient is coconut milk and aren sugar/palm sugar. Here are the complete ingredients you should to prepare:

Bajigur

1 litre of coconut milk from 1 coconut

2 rhizome segment of ginger root (Zingeber officinale)

3 pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius)

125 gram palm sugar

2 teaspoon of coffe or chocolate powder

How to make : Place coconut milk, coffee, palm sugar, and pandan leaves in a pot. Bring to a boil on to medium heat, stir frequently to prevent the coconut milk from curdling. Once it boils, fragrant and the palm sugar has all dissolved, turn off heat. Filter and the drink is ready to serve. Better to serve while it still hot.

Actually the original tradional recipe of bajigur do not contain coffe or chocolate, both added in modern version of bajigur. You can make bajigur without coffe or chocolate to get authentic taste.

 

Bandrek

The same as bajigur, bandrek is a hot herbal drink that perfect choice to warm your body in the cold wheater. Unlike bajigur, bandrek has more spices than bajigur. Instead of coconut milk bandrek use milk and milk as main ingredient. The following are the completed ingredient of bandrek:

250 g ginger (zingiber Officinale)

2 pandan leaves

2 lemongrass ( Andropogon nardus)

150 g palm sugar

5 clove

75 g sugar

200 l fresh milk

2 liter fresh water

You can also add:

peanut, slices of coconut

How to make:

Boil water, ginger, pandan leaves, lemongrass, palm sugar, sugar, and clove until it thick. Add fresh milk and boild for a while. Filter and ready to be served hot.
